Divers Alert Network ( DAN
) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1980 in association with Duke University Medical
Center (DUMC) to provide expert medical information and advice to the diving public.
DAN provides emergency medical advice as well as assistance and insurance for underwater
diving injuries. DAN Recompression Chamber support programs have provided assistance
to Hyperbaric facilities around the world. DAN is also a leader in research to
prevent injuries and to promote diving safety. Tracking diving accident statistics
and researching topics such as flying after diving are just a few examples.
DAN
operates diving's only 24-hour emergency hotline and a diving medical information line.
Their medical research and educational programs benefit everyone from beginning
divers to medical professionals. Divers Alert Network is supported by membership
dues and donations from more than 200,000 members. In return for their membership
