DAN Oxygen Provider Course

DAN Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries Course -- As a recreational diver, you can receive training to provide vital first aid that can make a difference to a scuba diver with decompression illness. The DAN Oxygen Provider Course provides entry-level training in the recognition and management of possible diving-related injuries using emergency oxygen first aid. If a diver is suspected of having decompression sickness or arterial gas embolism, emergency oxygen (O2) can do a great deal to assist the patient during transport to proper medical care.

In DANīs most recent dive accident record, less than 33% of injured divers received emergency oxygen in the field. Few of those received oxygen concentrations approaching the recommended 100% O2. DAN and all major diving instructional agencies recommend that all divers be qualified to provide 100% oxygen in the field to those injured in a dive accident.

This course represents entry level training designed to educate the general diving (and qualified non-diving) public in recognizing possible dive related injuries and providing emergency oxygen first aid while activating the local emergency medical services (EMS) and/or arranging for evacuation to the nearest available medical facility.

The DAN Oxygen Provider course will train you to...
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of a dive injury.
  • Assemble and use DAN Oxygen equipment.
  • Administer oxygen to an injured diver.
  • Activate local emergency management system (EMS).
  • Arrange for evacuation of the injured diver.
