|Local Dive Adventure: Lake Owen - Cable, Wisconsin|
|Instructor / Host: David P. Shirley (additional questions: email@example.com )|
|Plan a late summer local 'fun dive' weekend at one of the best
diving lakes in the Midwest! This annual Dive Weekend is always a great success and the
Lake Owen Resort's rooms fill quickly ( a one night deposit required). There are several group
events including: A golf ball/hood ornament hunt /prize event; a lobster hunt, a pot luck dinner on Saturday,
optional night dives, along with the
annual "String Cheese Hunt" (below the thermocline on a small wreck). After all,
Lake Owen is in Wisconsin! Click here
for a schedule of events. A new optional dive is the Sunday morning
PADI Project Aware Clean-up Dive.
Lake Owen is an easy three hour drive from the Twin Cities metro area and provides the opportunity for excellent fresh water diving. This nine mile long lake (with a maximum depth of 95') is located in the Chequamegon National Forest. Lake Owen has a wide variety of interesting bottom compositions, along with one of the best Smallmouth Bass populations in the Minnesota / Wisconsin area. The fish are accustomed to divers and will often eat the resident crayfish from divers' hands. Lake Owen's visibility in the summer is rarely less than 20' with the thermocline down near 40' by early September. This dive destination has been a long time favorite for many of Scuba Center's Instructors and Divemasters.
The Lake Owen Resort has been the host of divers weekends for many years and the fun dive weekend is limited to guests of the resort (or associated properties). Lake Owen Resort fun dive weekend guests are provided with free air fills* (*only from the resort's own compressor). The more you dive the more you save! For the group dive events, Lake Owen must be dove by boat. If you do not have a boat, a few rental pontoons are available. The resort has limited docking space available for their guests towing a boat.
|Room rates, photos, features and other useful information can be accessed from the Lake Owen Resort website.|
|Besides fun dive
weekend group events, the Cable, WI area also has numerous non-diving activities including several golf
courses and some spectacular
mountain bike trails (Cable is the host of the annual Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival
mountain bike event held the following weekend).
Scuba Center does not hold rooms for the Lake Owen Diver's Weekend however, please let us know if you will be attending the event. To reserve rooms with a deposit, call the resort at (715) 798-3603 or email the resort's hosts, James & Heather Bolen. Make sure you let them know you are with the Scuba Center Diver's Weekend!
Hope to see you there!
