PADI Tec Trimix Course
PADI TecRec courses are the quality benchmarks in the tec diving world due to their rigorous, yet logical, training sequence and the PADI educational materials that support them. TecRec courses are instructionally valid and have a seamless course flow that takes you from a new tec diver to one qualified to dive to the outer reaches of sport diving. Each level introduces you to new gear and procedures to extend your dive limits.

Ready for the outer edge of technical diving? The Tec Trimix Diver course takes experienced tec divers and turns them into extreme divers who go deeper and visit pristine sites where few others will ever go. During the course, you'll make dives as deep as 90 metres/300 feet, but once you earn this tough certification, there are few limits. Your training teaches you to build experience gradually and you do it because you've made it this far and have more exploring to do.

What will you learn?
The Tec Trimix Diver course emphasizes mission application:
  • Gas selection options, especially deco gases

  • Bubble models and deep stops

  • Using multigas trimix computers

  • Handling up to four stage/deco cylinders

To enroll in the Tec Trimix course, you must be*:
* Note that qualifying certifications from other diver training organizations may apply. Ask your PADI Tec Trimix  Instructor.

You also need to have a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.

How can you start learning now?
Visit our Eagan location to purchase your Tec Trimix Diver Crew-Pak that includes a PADI Tec Trimix Diver Manual, which you can start reading right away. You also receive a deep stop calculation table, trimix decal and emergency procedures slate as part of your pak.

What scuba gear will you use?
Youll use full technical equipment, including more than two stage/deco cylinders, and you may use a technical sidemount configuration. Your Tec Trimix Instructor may suggest additional gear.
Tec Trimix Equipment Requirements:
  • Double cylinders of at least 12 l/70 cf each, with isolator manifold. The isolator manifold is not required for divers using sidemount configuration.

  • Primary and secondary regulators for back mounted double manifolds, one with two metre/seven foot hose for air sharing and one with SPG. Note: In sidemount configuration, one regulator must have the two metre/seven foot hose, and both regulators must have an SPG.

  • Three stage/decompression cylinders with regulator and SPG, with proper labels/markings.

  • Tec diving BCD(s) and harness (backmount or sidemount)

  • Two multigas enriched air capable dive computers, or one multigas enriched air computer and a back up single gas computer with dive tables, or one single gas enriched air computer and a backup timer and depth gauge with dive tables.

  • Exposure suit appropriate for environment and dive duration (if students will use dry suits, they should be trained/experienced in their use in recreational diving prior to using them for tec training or diving).

  • Argon dry suit inflation system (as needed for environment)

  • Weight system (If required. Students should weight for the contingency of decompressing with near-empty cylinders.)

  • Jon line (as needed for environment)

  • Inflatable signal tube, whistle and/or other visual and audible surface signaling devices. Note that a sausage type DSMB may double for the inflatable signal tube.

  • Reel and lift bag (bright yellow preferred) or DSMB. A suitable DSMB has sufficient buoyancy to help steady a diver during a drifting decompression, and is unlikely to spill when deployed from the underwater.

  • Knife/cutting device and back up

  • Slate

  • Back up mask (optional)

  • Compass

  • Lights (optional as required for dive environment)

  • Backup buoyancy control. The student must have a reliable means for controlling buoyancy and maintaining decompression stops in midwater with a failed primary BCD. This is usually accomplished with a backup BCD (double wings) or, when using light weight cylinders, the use of a dry suit is permitted.
