Manta Ray Bay ResortThis Scuba Center adventure begins in Yap, a lush tropical island located just 9 degrees north of the equator. Unlike many South Pacific islands, Yap is an uplifted portion of the Asian Continental Shelf. It is surrounded by a broad shallow lagoon and nearly 90 miles of barrier reef. Long before Yap became famous in the diving community for it’s Manta Rays, it was known as the Land of Stone Money. The huge disks of stone, some over 12 feet (3.5 meters) in diameter are still used today in major transactions.

We'll spend 4 nights at the Manta Ray Bay Resort. The motif of the entire hotel is marine life with each of the rooms individually decorated in tropical elegance. Each room bears a fish name, and is decorated accordingly, with photographs and paintings of that fish, hand-carved door, hand carved key chains and handmade bedspreads.

Yap shark diving | Scuba Center Group Dive TripThe Manta Ray Bay Resort was built FOR divers, BY divers. Their harborside dive center, Yap Divers, has everything you’d expect from a PADI 5-star facility and SSI Platinum Dive Center, and so much more. Yap Divers is a full-service facility with modern boats, rental gear, dive shop, camera bays, gear rinse and storage. Yap Divers dives all sites around Yap on a daily basis. Enjoy 3 days of 3 tank boat diving and explore rich coral walls and caverns that Yap offers. Very few people know – or will ever know – Yap’s reefs like the staff at Yap Divers. Most dive sites in Yap were discovered and named by their divers. Mi’l Channel, one of their premier dive destinations, is more than the “home of the Mantas” – this site was classified by Skin Diver Magazine as one of the top dive destinations in the world.

Aggressor Fleet liveaboard diving trips | Palau diving vacationThe trip then moves to our next destination with a flight to Palau, Micronesia. Palau is the western-most cluster of six major island groups which make up the Caroline Islands, 600 miles east of the Philippines. Home to many world class dive sites, Palau made history in 2009 by establishing the first shark preserve in the world. In 2015 they approved the Palau National Marine Sanctuary Act, which will see 80% of the nation’s maritime territory (an area larger than the state of California) designated as a no-take marine reserve. Palau is known for incredibly clear water to explore the 1300-1500 hundred species of reef fish inhabiting the surrounding coral lagoon and adjacent islands.
Palau Aggressor II liveaboard | After a night at the West Plaza by the Sea Hotel, our group boards the Palau Aggressor II for a week of diving. Palau's mushroom-shaped rock islands offer a variety of exciting dives: WWII wrecks, channels, blue holes, and even a few caverns. There are also sheer walls covered in lush soft corals and huge anemones. Beginner divers may find Palau's strong currents challenging.

Palau is a year round destination with something for every season. While German Channel has many resident Manta Rays, during the mating season, December through March, guests may see as many as 20 – 30 rays! February and March offer large schools of Moorish Idols, Unicorn Fish and several species of Butterfly Fish. All year round, the Palau Aggressor II crew encounters massive bait balls of scad in and around Ulong and German Channel and on the reefs of Blue Corner and Siaes Corner.
