The PADI Project Aware Coral Reef Conservation Specialty was developed for divers, snorkelers and water enthusiasts.  The program uses multimedia presentations and the AWARE "Our World Our Water" manual to examine the importance of coral reefs, their basic biology and ecology, problems leading to their destruction and actions to address conservation such as Ecotourism.  Course topics will include.
The AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course is designed to inform you about the world’s coral reefs. The AWARE - Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course teaches you about the vital role of coral reefs in the marine environment. The course also familiarizes you with the current state of the world's coral reefs and how you can help. You will learn about the Project AWARE Foundation.
  • An introduction to Project AWARE

  • The importance of coral reefs to marine ecosystems and coastal areas

  • Coral reef biology, association and competition

  • The status of the world's coral reefs

  • How participants can help, including responsible diving and snorkeling practices

Prerequisite:   Interest in the aquatic world.  This course is open to divers, snorkelers, and anyone who would like to learn more about protecting the marine environment.  For PADI Project Aware Coral Reef Conservation Specialty certification, you must be a certified diver.
