Titanium is strong as steel, yet half the weight. Unlike stainless steel that rusts, brass that turns green or aluminum that pits and corrodes, titanium is a noble metal, inert in sea water. Even after centuries beneath the sea, a titanium part will look as new as it did the day it was made. That´s why it´s often the material of choice in environments where lesser metals would never survive. Titanium is a very exotic, expensive and difficult metal to fabricate. Atomic spent thousands of man-hours researching dozens of titanium alloys, and developing cost-effective ways to fabricate them. Atomic Aquatics has introduced the world´s only second stage regulator with all of the metal components made from titanium, at a price comparable to other premium "brass and plastic" second stages.For over twenty years, Dean Garraffa and Doug Toth have been innovators in the diving industry with over a dozen patents to their credit from BC's to regulators to snorkels. In 1995 they founded Atomic Aquatics in Huntington Beach, California.

Atomic Aquatics introduced the worlds first titanium diving regulators in January of 1997. Titanium is lightweight, strong as steel and immune to seawater corrosion. Atomic product features however, go beyond just the materials. They complement the use of titanium with new, innovative designs to enhance performance, reliability and ease of use.

Atomic Regulators
The Atomic Aquatics Second Stages are loaded with patented innovative features, exclusive only to Atomic Aquatics. The Automatic Flow Control ("AFC") is just one. High performance regulators are often unstable, prone to leaks and free flows. That's why manufacturers add knobs and switches to stabilize them. Atomic does it automatically. The AFC is the first and only depth activated venturi control that automatically balances performance and stability. A computer designed airfoil inside the mouthpiece changes position with response to depth to maintain consistent, natural, and effortless breathing at all depths. No dials to turn or buttons to push, the regulator "tunes itself as you dive".

Another patented innovation is the Seat Saver Orifice. The Achilles Heel of all regulator second stages is a small rubber valve seat on the poppet. In standard designs, this seat is pushed tight against a sharp edged orifice from the day it leaves the factory, eventually making a deep impression in the seat resulting in poor performance and annoying leaks. That's why sometimes your regulator is fine when you put it away and it leaks the next time you use it. The Atomic orifice only contacts the seat when pressurized. When not in use, the orifice automatically retracts away from the seat just enough to prevent damage during storage. This dramatically increases service life and maintains "like new" performance.

All Atomic regulator first stages are compact, high performing flow-through piston designs with some very special features. They've developed a unique high pressure piston seal system that is leak-free, and self-lubricating. These features mean more reliability and less maintenance so you can spend more time enjoying your diving. These materials used are the finest available, either titanium, chrome plated brass or type 316 stainless steel.

Atomic Alternate Air Sources
Atomic SS1 Alternate Air Source / Inflator
Designed for high performance and dependability
The primary advantage to the Atomic SS1 is combining 2 products into one to reduce the overall bulk and weight of your dive gear. The SS1 is only slightly larger than a standard BC inflator yet has a back-up breathing regulator built-in. There is only one low-pressure hose from your first stage that feeds both the BC inflator and the back-up regulator.

The Atomic SS1 contains a high flow second stage that performs on the same level as many high performance second stages. It will deliver high flow rates to a diver at depth with a minimum of effort. It is, however very stable and not prone to unnecessary free-flow or leakage from water movement while swimming, or during entries or exits. The inflator/deflator is easy to operate with soft surfaced buttons placed where they can be easily operated with one hand.

One of the most unique features of the Atomic SS1 is its adaptability to almost any BCD. Atomic has designed a set of adapters (patent pending) to fit virtually every poplar BCD brand available. The adapters also include components for attaching the cable exhaust feature of your existing BCD (if applicable).
