| Okay, we didn't believe the initial hype
on these fins, we admit it. We'd heard hollow claims about new fins before and found they
weren't true. We thought this might be the case with SplitFins too...
|
|
BUT WE WERE WRONG!
|
| Your conventional
paddle fins are just that. They work by pushing some of the water rearward
like an old paddlewheel steamship. As a paddle fin is pushed through the
water, much of the water spills over the top surface of the blade and
sticks to it, creating drag. Extra kicking effort is needed to overcome
that drag.
In contrast, the SplitFin slices though the water with two wing
shaped surfaces, creating lift and forward propulsion more like a
propeller. Any water traveling over the top of the blade is funneled into
and out of the opening (split) between the blades. Drag is reduced, effort
is reduced and efficiency is increased.

|
The Atomic Aquatics SplitFins use Natures Wing ® Propeller-Fin TM Technology, which delivers ultra-high speeds
with a small-range rapid flutter kick in the same manner that increasing
the RPM on a boat's propeller accelerates a boat to high speeds.
Independent tests by Scuba Diving Magazine, have proven Split Fins to be
20% more efficient than conventional paddle blade fins.

The Liquid-Blue and Reef-Red Atomic SplitFins
are made from a
soft high-performance thermoplastic rubber material. This unique material enables divers to experience the same
performance as the standard Atomic SplitFins while requiring even less physical
effort.
