*As of June 1, 2003 all Luxfer Aluminum cylinders manufactured between 1972 and 1988 will require a Visual Eddy Inspection every 2 1/2 years.  This schedule is in addition to (and not a replacement for) annual visual inspections and Hydro inspection every 5 years.  The purpose of this testing is to detect the possibility of sustained-load cracking (SLC) that can potentially occur in cylinders made from the older 6351 alloy.  More information can be found on the Luxfer web site sustained-load cracking FAQ section.

Luxfer Cylinder Sustained Load Cracking FAQ
Follow this link for information from Luxfer on sustained load cracking facts for cylinders made of  6351-alloy. Luxfer produced Aluminum cylinders from this alloy in the United States from 1972 through mid-1988. Their policy also includes advice on eddy-current inspection of these cylinders every 2 1/2 years.
